Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • Dry Ingredients:

    • 2 1/2 cups flour
    • 1 teaspoon baking powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Wet Ingredients:

    • 1 cup shortening
    • 1 cup sugar
    • 1 well-beaten egg
    • 2 tablespoons Pet Milk
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla

For Assembly:

  • Raspberry or strawberry jelly
  • 4X Confectioner’s Sugar (for sprinkling)

Instructions

  1. Sift Together:

    • In a bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Cream Together:

    • In another bowl, cream the shortening and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Stir In:

    • Add the well-beaten egg, Pet Milk, and vanilla to the creamed mixture and stir until combined.
  4. Chill:

    • Chill the dough overnight before using.
  5. Roll and Cut:

    • Roll out the chilled dough and cut with a heart-shaped cookie cutter. Each cookie will need a top and a bottom.
  6. Bake:

    • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and bake the cookies for 8-10 minutes or until lightly golden.
  7. Assemble Cookies:

    • Once the cookies are cool, place a teaspoon of jelly on the bottom of one cookie and cover it with another cookie (with the tops facing outward).
  8. Finish:

    • Sprinkle the assembled cookies with 4X Confectioner’s Sugar before serving.
