WHITE ROLLED CHRISTMAS COOKIES

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup butter (or margarine)
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 egg, well beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Dough: Combine the powdered sugar, cream of tartar, and baking soda in a large mixing bowl. Mix well.

  2. Add Butter: Cut in the butter (or margarine) until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  3. Incorporate Wet Ingredients: Add the beaten egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract (if using). Mix until a dough forms.

  4. Work the Dough: Work the dough like a pie crust until smooth. This dough can be rolled and rerolled as often as necessary to cut out desired shapes without becoming tough.

  5. Shape the Cookies:

    • For cut-out cookies: Roll the dough out on a floured surface to your desired thickness and cut into shapes.
    • For drop cookies: Roll the dough into balls and press them flat to about 1/4 inch thick.
  6. Bake: Preheat your oven to 300°F to 350°F (150°C to 175°C). Place the cookies on a baking sheet and bake for about 8 minutes, or until lightly golden.

  7. Cool and Decorate: Allow the cookies to cool before frosting with your favorite powdered sugar icing and decorating as desired.

Enjoy your delicious cookies! They are perfect for any occasion and can be customized with various shapes and decorations!
